Overwatch: First Strike Cancelled – Blizzard Reveals The Reasons

We won’t be able to grab this graphic novel in its originally planned format.

Back at the end of July, we wrote about how Dark Horse Comics plans to launch First Strike digitally at the end of November, followed by a physical release in April 2017. However, this 100-page book was ultimately canceled by Blizzard.

The reasoning follows: „We’ve ultimately decided to take the story in a different direction. The original idea for the graphic novel dates back to the early days of the game’s development and came from our desire to tell the story of the founding of Overwatch during the Omnic Crisis,” he added. “In the years since First Strike‘s conception, we have done a lot of development on the universe and its stories. While the core of this story remains, we have changed and expanded upon how we see the events that took place during the first days of Overwatch.”

We wouldn’t be surprised if Overwatch, which is extremely popular, ends up getting a CG movie based on First Strike’s concept. Blizzard pulled a cinematic adaptation off with Blizzard, too…
