Is Call Of Duty Actually Going Back To Its Roots?

Sledgehammer‘s game is leaking, and it might go back to the past, which would follow the publisher’s comments.

Previously, we heard that Activision wasn’t impressed by last year’s Call of Duty, Infinite Warfare’s performance, and it might partially be because of forcing players to purchase the more expensive version of the game to acquire 2007’s Modern Warfare’s remastered edition, which doesn’t even launch without owning the 2016 shooter. People were pissed at Activision because of this decision.

If we can believe the leaks, the new Call of Duty‘s name would be Call of Duty: WWII, which would obviously mean a return to the second World War. As the franchise was „born” there, this move would underline Activision’s statement of having learned from the mistakes and making a return to the roots.

The images below surfaced on Reddit, as well as on Destructoid, but seeing how the publisher hasn’t confirmed anything (neither has the developer team, who last made 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare), take this leak with a grain of salt.

As Electronic Arts is preparing Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the autumn season, Call of Duty wouldn’t have „direct” competition, although Battlefield 1, which went to the first World War, would probably still have a lot of players. Activision has a tough challenge to get back its lost player base – and if they end up pulling another „get the old remastered game only with the new title”, like adding Modern Warfare 2 remastered, locked to WWII, it might be a shot in the foot… again.
