PlayStation 4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Project Scorpio: Which Console Is The Most Popular?

A study has brought up some unexpected results.

Nielsen’s Games 360 Report, which you can read here, involved more than two thousand people in the United States. Their first question was regarding the awareness of the current generation consoles. The general population, aged 13+, came up with this result:

  • PlayStation 4: 69%,
  • Xbox One/S: 61%,
  • Nintendo Switch: 22%,
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 21%,
  • None of them: 18%,
  • Project Scorpio: 11%.

One point for Sony. With gamers, this result surfaced:

  • PlayStation 4: 77%,
  • Xbox One/S: 72%,
  • Nintendo Switch: 29%,
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 27%,
  • Project Scorpio: 14%,
  • None of them: 9%.

Two points for Sony. The third question was about the intention to definitely/probably purchase one of these consoles. (The first percentage will be for gamers, the second one will be for the general population)

  • PlayStation 4: 21%/15%,
  • Xbox One/S: 17%/12%,
  • Nintendo Switch: 16%/12%,
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 15%/11%,
  • Project Scorpio: 13%/9%.

Sony took all three categories, but if we look at the stronger Sony/Microsoft console and the Nintendo Switch, the situation sharply changes, as the Switch becomes the most popular – and most demanded – console out of the three. Even though the study doesn’t look at the entire population of the United States, Nielsen’s work is still showing a potential trend.
