Half-Life Gets Patch Roughly Two Decades After Release!

Valve patched Half-Life out of nowhere. The first one.

Gabe Newell’s team’s mentality is not something we can understand – the original Half-Life launched in 1998, and it’s not exaggerating to say that it was a revolutionary, 10/10 title in its time. Of course, it’s not perfect, and seeing it getting a patch is not a surprising unless you forgot when it came out. Quoting the patch notes:„

  • Fixed crash when entering certain malformed strings into the game console. Thanks to Marshal Webb from BackConnect, Inc for reporting this.
  • Fixed crash when loading a specially crafted malformed BSP file. Thanks to Grant Hernandez (@Digital_Cold) for reporting this.
  • Fixed malformed SAV files allowing arbitrary files to be written into the game folder. Thanks to Vsevolod Saj for reporting this.
  • Fixed a crash when quickly changing weapons that are consumable. Thanks to Sam Vanheer for reporting this.
  • Fixed crash when setting custom decals”

Unless datamining occurs for the game, we can’t say if it’s a silent way of Valve preparing something big (Half-Life 3? …or 2 Episode 3?), so we rather say silent and put a dot to the end of this paragraph.

Couldn’t Valve make this patch earlier than 2017?
