Why Does It Take Gearbox So Long To Make Borderlands 3?

Randy Pitchford, the president of Gearbox clarified their situation.

Borderlands 2 came out in 2012 – almost five years ago! It did get content for a year or so, but still, fans have been waiting for a proper installment for four years by now. Pitchford told IGN their standpoint.

For them, Borderlands is important, and thus, they want to make a major step ahead that cannot be done overnight. Here, Pitchford took a turn to compare Gearbox‘ situation with Rockstar’s. There were quite a few years between Grand Theft Auto III and IV, and while there were continuations with Vice City and San Andreas, they used the same engine in the same generation as III did. He says it’s important to have a look at Rockstar’s approach: they needed time to step up to the next level with Grand Theft Auto IV.

Meanwhile, the fans need to be satisfied with the new game, too. „The easiest thing in the world would be for us to churn out a lot of Pre-Sequels, and we could make a lot of money. We’re going to work on it, and when we think we’ve had it—we’re not going to announce anything until we think we have something worthy of announcing. And then we’ll set expectations on that,” he said.

Borderlands-wise, there’s only a re-release collection on PlayStation 4/Xbox One (we do not include Telltale’s episodic game). It’s about time to do something big.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
