Cross-Play Between PlayStation 4 And Xbox One: It Happened... As A Mistake?!

Fortnite managed to pull off what Microsoft has offered for a long time, only for it to be refused by Sony: the two consoles’ players could play together online.

The fact that Fortnite surprisingly had cross-play available between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One first showed up on Reddit. However, a few hours later, The Verge reported that Epic Games had a configuration setting misfired, which enabled cross-play, and this mistake (they openly said it was a mistake!) was fixed. Xbox’ boss, Phil Spencer, said on Twitter that he would have had the option available between the two rival platforms.

So, cross-play happened for a short period, confirming that it’s not impossible, but due to Sony going its way, we can’t expect it to officially happen anytime soon.
