Star Wars: Battlefront II Will Get Smaller, Regular Content Updates [VIDEO]

Star Wars: Battlefront II is reaching its release date (as well as its beta).

On the PlayStation Blog, a new single-player video was revealed, and the Messenger droids were also detailed. Quote following:

„The death of the Emperor wasn’t the end of the Empire […] even from beyond the grave, the Emperor’s destructive control holds sway over the galaxy […]. Part of that vengeance is enacted by Messenger droids, one of which plays a key role in the single-player story of Star Wars Battlefront II.

Messengers are agents of the Contingency – the Emperor’s sinister plan put into effect in the event of his untimely demise. […] Messengers are foreboding droids. They bear the visage of the dead Palpatine, and some are equipped to enforce his will not just with words, but with violent action. Early in Star Wars Battlefront II, a Messenger tasks Iden and her father, Garrick Versio, with terrifying instructions. We don’t want to reveal much more about this critical sequence, but its pretty clear that Iden’s “unusual” mission will place her on a collision course with the last wishes of the fallen Emperor. […]”

DICE’s level designer, Peter Vesti talked a bit more about the game on Reddit. He revealed that there would be smaller, but regular content updates, which is a different approach from Battlefield 1. He also said that corner camping, as well as choke points, should be less of an issue (or a non-issue whatsoever): „Corner camping I think is less of an issue due to the changed 3rd person camera – it’s personally not something I have experienced a lot so far anyway. If you look for gameplay from Battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2, you can see that the 3rd person camera in the new game is closer to the character. This means you can look around walls and such less than before.

Choke points is always a very hot topic. It also has for this development and on Battlefield 1. It’s nice for pacing/action/experience to have sections or areas where everyone is fighting nearby – however, when it’s too much, and everything turns into a stalemate or explosions everywhere it can be a very bad experience. It’s something we are very aware of and something we will monitor and fix in the game for sure. I don’t think it’s going to be a massive issue – when we see that kind of gameplay we all highlight it and try to fix it.”

Star Wars: Battlefront II is out on November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Its beta will launch on October 4 for pre-orderers, October 6 for everyone else, and it will end on October 9.
