Bluehole is going to follow the „GAAS” trend, which makes it unlikely for them to make a proper sequel to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
The game is largely successful (which is why Microsoft will self-publish the Xbox One port later this year), but PlayerUnknown, aka Brendan Green, talked with IGN, where he got a question. „Will there be a sequel?” He responded: „Oh no. We’re building this game as a service. We’ll still have the boxed copy that you buy … we still want to polish and refine. Add more maps, add more assets, and continually refine the gameplay and optimise as we go forward.” He did say a boxed copy: the Xbox One version will get a retail release. Microsoft thinks similarly about the possibility of Minecraft 2, by the way…
According to the Steam post, the first game will test a deadlier „blue zone” in early November. This part of the map is where players will get hurt over time to encourage them to move towards the center of the map, where only other players could lower their health.
