Star Wars: Battlefront II: Investigation In Belgium, Electronic Arts Responds! [VIDEO]

Don’t celebrate too much; the solution is just temporary.

On Metacritic, Star Wars: Battlefront II has a 74/100 average rating with thirty-one reviews. However, the users are harsher: with 3827 ratings, on a 1-10 scale, the game currently stands at a measly 0.8 due to the scandal around its monetization…

The Belgian Gaming Commission, which regulates gambling in the country, is investigating around loot boxes, which could affect Battlefront II and Overwatch, for example. The reason why they stepped up is that we don’t know the odds before opening the boxes, and thus, they could be labeled as gambling. Pater Naessens, the director of the commission, told VTM the following: „If there is a game of chance, it is not possible without a permit from the Gaming Commission.” It means the publishers (Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard) could be paying large fines, or their games might even get pulled from the shelves as well if the games are found to be gambling.

Electronic Arts sent a statement to GameSpot, which follows: „Creating a fair and fun game experience is of critical importance to EA. The crate mechanics of Star Wars Battlefront II are not gambling. A player’s ability to succeed in the game is not dependent on purchasing crates. Players can also earn crates through playing the game and not spending any money at all. Once obtained, players are always guaranteed to receive content that can be used in the game.” PR reply, as usual…

However, the company decided to shut down microtransactions temporarily! Their website says that the premium in-game currency, Crystals, can not be bought with real money until the progression system is tweaked. Remember, it’s just a TEMPORARY solution…
