The X-Wing Game That Electronic Arts Rejected! [VIDEO]

Before Star Wars: Battlefront II, another team tried to take a shot at a space combat game… but the publisher did not accept the pitch.

Double Damage (the developers of Rebel Galaxy) submitted a pitch to Electronic Arts in 2016, which shows how they would have created a space combat (dogfight) game in the Star Wars universe with the X-Wings.

Travis Baldree, the head of the studio, told Kotaku that the campaign structure would have been similar to the one in X-Wing, but there would have been checkpoints to ease the difficulty. The controls would have been planned to get an adaptation for gamepads (consoles), which would have been a focus after the prototype, which took two-three weeks to complete.

Baldree admitted that the prototype took assets from various locations. „It was a long-shot, and we had near-nil hopes that it would be seriously considered, but we probably did it to please ourselves rather than out of any hope that it would get greenlit. EA was very gracious in listening, but it never came to anything, and we moved on,” he said.

Star Wars: Battlefront II has Criterion-developed Starfighter Assault in it, but we just wonder, how would it have been if Double Damage got the nod?
