PlayStation 4 Vs. Nintendo Switch: Sony Wins Once Again!

The tendencies are likely staying as they are for a while.

Let’s face it – in Japan, Nintendo‘s and Sony‘s homeland, the Switch was the console that mostly ruled the sales charts, but on the week from January 15 to 21, for the second time in a row, the PlayStation 4 took the lead. Here’s Media Create‘s weekly chart (which didn’t get updated on the Japanese website yet):

  1. Switch – 43,027
  2. PS4 – 37,572
  3. PS4 Pro – 14,935
  4. New 2DS XL – 7,302
  5. PS Vita – 4,256
  6. New 3DS XL – 3,563
  7. Xbox One X – 1,285
  8. 2DS – 1,250
  9. Xbox One – 103

With the PlayStation 4 Pro‘s results included, Sony’s console was best-selling. Interesting to see that the Xbox One X finally broke out from the double or triple digit weekly sales, possibly due to the increased availability. It’s still a long way behind even the PlayStation Vita, despite the Xbox One X being the strongest console.

Sony might face more positive news, as on January 26, Monster Hunter World will launch worldwide with no Switch port on the horizon (we previously wrote about the reasons… and the game will not even be out on Xbox in Japan either), although a few players might have purchased a PlayStation 4 early to be ready for the new Capcom game.
