Metal Gear: Rethought Film, But What Kind Of Mug Does Hideo Kojima Have?

MOVIE NEWS – A Metal Gear movie is in progress, and the director didn’t miss the opportunity to discuss it with the father of the franchise.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is going to be the director of the Metal Gear movie. He already has experience in this field, as he directed the live-action Destiny 2 New Legends Will Rise video. He recently had a bit of Skype discussion with Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear franchise (who has left Konami over two years ago by this point…).

Last August, Vogt-Roberts said that the script is being rewritten to make it as close to what the fans want to see and hear as possible. He also remembered a meeting with Sony Pictures: „I was able to go to them and say, ‘Let’s stop where we are, because I think we’re heading down a direction that doesn’t fully capture why people love this game, what Kojima’s voice is, why people who have played this game for decades love it, why people who have never played this game will love it.’ I was able to say, ‘Let’s think about whether we’re making the truest, most balls-to-the-wall Metal Gear version of this–the most Kojima version of this. And even if that means we make it for a little bit less money, let’s make the version of this that’s true to what it is, fully committed to what Kojima’s voice is.’”

He also shared his thoughts why he thinks the video game movies of the past few years weren’t that successful: „I think that [filmmakers] have looked at a video game movie and said, ‘Oh, that’s flashy! That’s cool!’…and there’s very little desire to understand the tone and the atmosphere. A big part of it is not fully committing to the source material, being able to say ‘No, this is what makes this great, so let’s figure out how we translate it.’”

It’s too early to talk about the release date or the cast of the Metal Gear movie yet, but we have one question. What on Earth is that mug that Kojima has on his table? What is that?
