TT Isle Of Man – Deadly But Not Today

REVIEW – Well, Kylotonn is back again: the team has been recently working on the WRC series the most in the past few years, and they also made a bike game a few years ago on PC, and it was sh*t. Thankfully, Motorcycle Club came out a few years ago, and there’s improvement, but we’re still far from quality despite the concept…

First, I need to explain what on Earth this bike game about: the event, which is officially called International Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, and it’s held on the Isle of Man (which is effectively an autonomous region belonging to the United Kingdom) on the streets since its first race held in 1907. The at least 30-mile track is dangerous even today, and its lap record should tell you that it’s not a short circuit, either: it’s barely under 17 minutes. It’s not a MotoGP or a motocross title that you’d expect…

(Quick note: the headlines will all be locations related to the event.) We rarely see this race (or time trial event) turned into a game adaptation, so TT Isle of Man can be a tasty treat, especially how it tries to be realistic. The way we ride through the streets, the vibes are simply GOOD! In the case of Milestone, I’m not sure if I can even name a game where I felt the same, which describes them. Even the menus managed to somehow keep this emotion going. There’s nothing more exciting (or filled with adrenaline?) than riding a bike at 230 km/h in a first-person perspective. The thing is somewhat ruined by a factor, though.

In the first paragraph, I wrote that „we’re still far from quality” – I wasn’t joking there. I don’t think the physics are the best (and it is the main reason why the rating below as is!), and since it’s a bike game, the story aspect is replaced by the physics along the usual quarter of gameplay, graphics, audio, and ambiance. I’ve seen (or felt?) better, and the extras around the event aren’t that good, either – there’s not much content to delve into, and somehow, this game even has a career mode with a somewhat limited selection of superbikes and supersports.

The artificial intelligence doesn’t seem to make mistakes – at least from what I have seen, the AI, which can be either ridiculously slow or almost impossible to catch, never managed to bail. At least our rider can go head-on into the concrete wall if we screw up, which can happen! Regarding the graphics, I didn’t say that TT Isle Of Man offers you to choose from one of the three times of the day: morning, noon, or sunset, and it gives a bit of extra ambiance.

Somehow, the sunset fits the Isle of Man perfectly, especially how the DualShock 4 is vibrating in our hands (because it will do so, and almost constantly+) – we’re trying to stay on the bike with a 100 pulse. The audio also seems to be mostly okay, with the single exception of the acceleration coming out of slower corners.

And I need to think how I should rate TT Isle of Man because the game isn’t terrible, but it also not an outstanding title either. It’s average, but maybe a bit better than that, as it also offers online racing (which then rules out the AI’s antics altogether, you get human pilots instead, which is nice). If I gave it a seven, then I remember that it doesn’t have much variety. If I gave it a six, then I recall how rarely the Isle of Man gets a game. So, is it going to be a 7 out of 10? The animations aren’t great. 6 out of 10? Not a lot of content (yet it has a career mode, just to make the situation twisty)…

6.5. I think that’s where we should stand. If you are waiting for MotoGP 18 (which should be better than any previous titles: it will finally use Unreal Engine 4, and maybe it will drop the glitches that almost made me quit last year after two hours; if it happens again, I’ll write four pages of it…), then have fun with TT Isle of Man. You can play it until June, but I wouldn’t pay more than thirty dollars for it. It’s an okay game, but nothing more. It does have its highlights, which I hope I mentioned previously. It’s worth a test ride, I say!

Pro:

+ How often do we see the Isle of Man getting a game?
+ You can feel how speedy the event can get
+ Days of time

Against:

– The physics aren’t that good
– Skeleton content
– Can we please see the AI botch a few times?
