Valve Vs. Australia: Gabe Newell Has To Pay!

The appeal was dismissed (again), so Valve has to get its wallets ready.

Originally, the company received a 3 million-dollar fine, because Valve misled or deceived gamers related to Steam‘s refund policy. Now, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) published the decision that says it is going to be an important precedent for an overseas company who deal „down under.” Although Valve is American, they serve Australian games, too, and thus, they have to comply with the Australian law.

The process between ACCC and Valve started back in 2014, and the first decision in favor of the former sprung up in 2016. ACCC claims that there are 2.2 million users of Steam in Australia. After the initial appeal lost, now the High Court judged in favor of the Australian authority.

Valve can afford to pay, though…
