[E3 2018] Nioh 2: New Details; We Will Get A Demo, Too! [VIDEO]

During Sony’s E3 conference, not a lot was mentioned about Nioh 2. However, there was an interview with Fumihiko Yasuda (the game’s director), and Tom Lee (Team Ninja’s creative director), where they revealed a ton of new information.

Yasuda says that with Nioh 2, his goal was to make it a natural evolution and not make the game a completely different experience. He expressed that while the first title was an action-RPG, its RPG element wasn’t perfect, and he wants this portion to be better in the sequel. Its story and location will be tied to the first game, and they plan to reveal more details about these in the following days. Yasuda says even those should enjoy Nioh 2 who haven’t played the first game.

Yasuda said the following when he was asked what makes his game stand out from the rest: „In general, I think it’s the close quarters combat system. We have certain elements that are very uniquely Japanese, such as the ki pulse and the weapon stances. In addition to that, maybe the fact that both the player and the enemy have a stamina bar. That’s probably something unique to Nioh.” The game will get a demo before it launches, and Nioh 2 will also come with character customization, including gender and race – it wasn’t available in the first game!

Yasuda confirmed that our character will possess the power of yokai – he/she can become a demon. Now, there will be yokai vs. samurai and yokai vs. yokai scenarios as well, not just samurai vs. samurai or samurai vs. yokai like in the first game. Nioh 2 will be „masocore:” Yasuda wants the deaths to be more satisfying for the players than before – we all mistakes, and we should learn from them as we keep dying.

Nioh 2 is in development for PlayStation 4. There is no release date yet.
