[E3 2018] Fallout 76: Beta For Pre-Ordering [VIDEO]

A „few” new details emerged of the next Fallout.

Recently, it’s a trend for AAA games to have a beta for pre-ordering the game. Fallout 76 will do the same thing: if you pre-order on Amazon (the link is for the PlayStation 4 version), you’ll get a code. However, you can cancel the pre-order even after getting the code, which you can redeem here. The beta will first happen on Xbox One, followed by the PlayStation 4 and the PC.

The game, which is set in 2102, 25 years after the nuclear bombs dropped, is being developed by Bethesda Austin, formerly known as BattleCry Studios, whose game, BattleCry, was cancelled. They gave multiplayer support into Fallout 4’s engine. The game will have in-depth crafting: you’ll need to find recipes and then create mini-bases, workshops, to work on the items. You can’t put them everywhere, though: for example, you won’t be allowed to put one near the entry of a Vault. The servers will have 24-32 people (no decision on the number yet), and you can also form teams to discover the map which will be four times bigger than Fallout 4’s. It will be divided into six sections, each with its unique fauna and enemy types. All of them will have dynamic weather effects and world events, including radiation storms that could mutate our character. It could have visual-only, as well as gameplay-related changes (both positive and negative) that could become permanent if we decide not to cure it.

Expect survival elements, too: you must eat and drink, but the developers say it won’t be a huge burden. However, foods will get rotten over time, and cooking/processing them will be helpful, as they will help you avoid the diseases. The Scorched, an intelligent group of ghouls, capable of using weapons, will also be a significant threat. The game will also take ideas from West Virginia’s lore, such as the Mothman, or the Greenbrier hotel, which was the first US government nuclear bunker.

Levelling up will get you perk cards – only a limited amount can be active all the time. You can swap them out at any time, sell them to other players (the devs consider implementing a robot vendor at a hub for this purpose), or share them with your team, which is also limited to four members. The activation of the nuclear rockets will be an endgame task, but finding the codes and the locations will be a hard task – the bombed region will become a higher level part of the world with higher level loot and enemies. These will revert to normal over time.

PvP? The devs plan to implement a 12v12 team deathmatch mode, but they haven’t decided yet. Aggressive players will have a Wanted level, communication between players will be possible with voice chat and an emote wheel, and there will also be a photo mode, too. Post-release, the devs will focus on the most used/played features, and after Fallout 76 releases, there will be free DLC updates for years. The microtransactions will be purely for cosmetical items that could be achieved by playing the game as well.

There will be no NPCs, the V.A.T.S. will become real-time, and there will be no mod support when the game launches. The developers, as well as Bethesda, are committed to implementing it at a later date. Todd Howard says that we’ll have our private world where we can mod it all we want, but it’s going to be a robust system that needs to work well. Fallout 76 is called a „live” game, something like Destiny. If we die, respawning will not punish us much, and we will get back to the game near to the point where we died. Changing servers will keep your camp at the same place. If it’s occupied, it’ll be packed up for you so that it can be moved elsewhere. There will also be public workshops that need to be cleared of mutants first. After that happens, they can be used for crafting things like bullets.

Fallout 76 initially started out as the multiplayer component of Fallout 4, but it was scrapped. Was it a good idea? We’ll see on November 14 when it launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Until then, let’s enjoy NoClip’s documentary.
