Is Infinity Ward’s Next-Gen Call Of Duty Bringing Back A Single-Player Campaign?

Wait a minute… a next-gen title from Infinity Ward in 2019?!

Let’s stop for a moment. Infinity Ward‘s latest game in the series was 2016’s Infinite Warfare, which was followed by WWII (Sledgehammer) last year, and Black Ops IIII (Treyarch), respectively. It means Infinity Ward is up next in 2019, which has a job listing that caught CharleIntel‘s attention for several reasons.

The team, who is developing „a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next-gen platforms,” is looking for a narrative scripter, who is expected to have broad knowledge in multiplayer and single-player game design. A next-gen game, which means that Call of Duty in 2019 might already be a cross-gen title.

And that means the next-gen consoles (intentionally using the plural here, as the job listing did it, too) could be arriving in 2019… unless Activision Blizzard skips Call of Duty next year, which is, frankly, highly unlikely to happen.

There’s one issue, though: in 2013, Call of Duty: Ghosts, which was developed by Infinity Ward, came out for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360… and that game wasn’t that great. History might repeat itself (as they were proudly touting a next-gen engine, which turned out to be a lie altogether amongst other things…).
