The Gaming Industry’s Reaction To Telltale’s Closure

Almost all major developer/publisher has responded to Telltale‘s sudden closure announcement.

The weekend’s most shocking announcement was Telltale closing its doors (and Capcom Vancouver’s closure would be the week’s surprise) – although the team is still active with a skeleton crew, they only complete the remaining necessary things. (Officially, we don’t know what that means – rumours say it would be Minecraft: Story Mode and NOT The Walking Dead: The Final Season…)

On Twitter, the #TelltaleJobs hashtag gained traction, and several publishers or developers offered the jobless ex-Telltale employees to send them their CV. For example, Guerrilla Games (Killzone; Horizon: Zero Dawn – they would even provide help in relocating to Europe), or Ubisoft San Francisco (Rocksmith; South Park: The Fractured But Whole). The latter group even offered them a friendly chat at a restaurant with them footing the bill on Monday afternoon.

Cory Barlog and Matt Sophos from Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica also joined the queue, but Days Gone’s developers, SIE Bend, Blizzard, or even Gearbox didn’t stay silent. There’s even more: Harebrained Schemes (Necropolis; Shadowrun), Adam Boyes from Iron Galaxy, and The Molasses Flood also offered the ex-Telltale people to initiate contact. (And that’s not all – we could list a few more: Ready at Dawn, Criterion, Techland…)

That is a strong list. Humans work in the gaming industry as well, so if someone runs into trouble, it’s not surprising to see them teaming up to help the fallen. Let’s hope everyone finds a new workplace quickly.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
