The Spyro trilogy has no subtitles, and the publisher responded somewhat like a jerk!
Activision responded to Gamepitt when the site asks why there are no subtitles in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy: „When Toys For Bob set out to make an awesome game collection, there were certain decisions that needed to be made throughout the process. The team remained committed to keep the integrity and legacy of Spyro that fans remembered intact. The game was built from the ground up using a new engine for the team (Unreal 4) and was localized in languages that had not previously been attempted by the studio. While there’s no industry standard for subtitles, the studio and Activision care about the fans’ experience especially concerning accessibility for people with different abilities, and will evaluate going forward.” So there are no subtitles because it’s not necessary it seems!
We’re not going deep into DualShockers‘ statistics, but we’ll mention that according to Gallaudet University, 0.38% of the United States’ population aged five or older, and over half of the people over the age of 65 are „functionally deaf,” and a 1997-2003 study from NHIS claims 0.22% of the population (600 thousand people) are „deaf.” There have to be people who are gamers and would appreciate the subs.
Still, in the United Kingdom’s retail sales, the purple dragon has fared well – GamesIndustry reports that despite being available on only two platforms (PlayStation 4, Xbox One), Spyro: Reignited Trilogy took the first place on the charts. Let’s see the rest:
- Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Fallout 76
- Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
- Fifa 19
- Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- Hitman 2
When will Activision release the trilogy on PC and the Nintendo Switch? Crash was exclusive to the PlayStation 4 for a year…
