Starbreeze To Cut Costs Due To The Walking Dead

Overkill‘s (Payday) The Walking Dead already released on PC, but sales-wise, it’s not performing that well…

A few weeks ago, Starbreeze published its financial results, and already then, they registered a pre-tax 11.3 million dollar losses. Although they expect a positive result at the end of the current quarter, they decided to cut the costs internally, and „sharpen the focus on core business,” meaning they have to concentrate on game development. The cost-cutting efforts are led by Sebastian Ahlskog, the current CFO of Starbreeze until his replacement is found.

Starbreeze‘s problem stems from one game: Overkill’s The Walking Dead (to not spoil the upcoming review, all we say is that it’s far from a great title…), which doesn’t have as good sales on PC as they expected. However, in low-cost markets, such as Russia or China, the game fares better (although it doesn’t balance the losses), which means the pricing itself could be a problem, too. The console version, which will be published by 505 Games in 2019, giving Starbreeze an instant 10 million dollar fee, has yet to see daylight, and we don’t have high hopes for it either…

The developers continue to expand and fix The Walking Dead, though. It might be too late, however…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
