Boosting Can Get You In Jail!

Boosting is „rewarded” by a sentence!

First, we need to define the term boosting – for money (most of the time at least), a low-level, or low-skilled player can make his character(s)/team(s) in games like Overwatch or League of Legends to be souped up (which could be done via machine learning, too – a human isn’t entirely necessary for grinding). However, it shows against high-level players, which will break the balance in online gameplay. There’s even a market for boosting, but not for long.

The South Korean National Assembly passed an amendment to the Game Industry Promotion Act (passed in 2017), Inven reports; boosters will get up to 18 thousand dollars of fines, as well as a two-year, suspended prison sentence, as boosting is now a criminal offence in South Korea, starting in 2019! It means that if you want to learn the game, you have to do it without boosting involved in South Korea (which is a major eSports country!).

Paying others to do grinding for you doesn’t always pay off…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
