Is Microsoft Working On A Foldable Device? Is A New Surface Coming?

TECH NEWS – Nowadays, foldable mobile/tablet devices seem to be the fad (and meanwhile, Samsung managed to miss the chance to become the first company that releases such a device…), so it’s no wonder that others are working on a similar thing.

WCCFTech, based on The Verge, reports that while Microsoft is releasing portable devices under the Surface brand, they might be using this name for their in-development foldable device. They have other projects, too, such as the dual-screen Andromeda codenamed device, and they also work together with PC manufacturers for 2-in-1 solutions. Previously, Google also said at the Android Dev Summit in November that they will support folding devices with future versions of Android.

Meanwhile, Microsoft wants to unify Windows with the help of Microsoft Composable Shell (C-Shell), and Windows Core OS (which is used by the Surface Hub 2, and is planned to be utilised by the HoloLens 2 as well). A few days ago, builds with dual-screen functions of Windows 10 also appeared, which means the Redmond-based company is up to something.

So, Microsoft seems to enter the party, following Royole, Samsung, Huawei and OPPO, who are all either about to release or are working on foldable smartphones. As Microsoft’s Surface devices aren’t for phone calls, the direct competition will not be the case for the new Surface that might launch in 2020. In 2019, there are rumours about a redesigned Surface Pro’s release, though.
