Starbreeze Still In Shambles: More Time For Reconstruction!

The Swedish company that put a lot of money and faith into The Walking Dead, is still not seeing much progress.

Starbreeze has requested a reconstruction in December – for Swedish companies, it’s a method of avoiding bankruptcy. Back then, the deadline was March 3, but the company requested three more months for the reconstruction. The administrator that supervises the procedure is supporting it. Starbreeze emphasised that it wants to „focus on its core business of internal game development and publishing,” as well as partnering with external parties so their „non-core operations develop in a positive way.”

The game that causes their flop (at the moment it seems like one!) is the Payday-dev Overkill’s newest game, The Walking Dead, which we checked out on PC, and… we didn’t like it a lot. (Since then, the game’s price is cut in half!) The console versions would be published by 505 Games, but they wrote the following on Twitter: „We just wanted to clear the position on the OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead on consoles and confirm that the game has not been cancelled, purely postponed whilst development is on-going. We will share further news as soon as possible.” Why was this tweet posted? It seems that someone might have received a refund on PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4 version of The Walking Dead. The photo was published on Reddit, and it says the game has been cancelled (which has been denied by 505 Games since then).

So, The Walking Dead might launch eventually on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but if Starbreeze will not be able to stay afloat, then 505 Games wouldn’t be able to do much about it. (Unless Skybound Games, who have previously taken over Telltale’s work to finish their TWD game’s final season, steps in and helps Overkill’s game to be available on consoles as well…)

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
