More Signs Point To Diablo Heading To Netflix

MOVIE NEWS – It seems that Blizzard is indeed going to push its franchise from the 90s to Netflix.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office’s website shows a new trademark for Diablo, and it’s not for a video game (there are games in development as well, and we’re not talking about the mobile Diablo Immortal, which got major backlash from the community last year…), as it has a term that we quote: „Downloadable films and movies featuring narratives based on a video game and provided via a video-on-demand service.” As it says „films and movies,” it means it’s going to be a series of them, and the video-on-demand service is something that we can apply to Netflix (all you need is an Internet connection and a subscription to access films and series at any time).

Andy Cosby, the screenwriter of the Hellboy series, wrote the following on Twitter that got deleted since in September: „I guess I can confirm I am indeed in final talks to write and show-run the new DIABLO animated series for Activision and Netflix. It’s very exciting and I hope to the High Heavens it all works out.” A few days ago, he hinted at it again with a new tweet but without naming anything: „It’s killing me that I can’t talk openly about my new super secret project, because my new super secret project is just so frikkin’ cool! Soon… very soon…”

So Blizzard is preparing something behind the scenes, and Cosby fired the gun prematurely (and that’s lightly put…), and now he is waiting for the moment to officially reveal the Diablo Netflix series. As that site/service is picking up video game-related projects left and right (Castlevania, The Witcher, and a few days ago, even Dragon’s Dogma got greenlit…), it’s likely that they paid for Diablo as well.

So all we can do now is wait for the announcement – Blizzard might announce it this autumn (as we have no info about the cast, and an animated series needs time…).
