Hunt: Showdown: Crytek’s New Game Gets Retail Release Date [VIDEO]

Crytek‘s next game, Hunt: Showdown has been in development for a while (you might already have it on Steam), but it’s slowly reaching the retail launch format.

Hunt: Showdown, a competitive first-person bounty hunting game, combines the thrill of first-person shooters and survival games and packs those elements into a match-based format. Each match pits up to ten players—playing solo or in teams of two—against each other as they compete for bounty by taking out gruesome monsters in the swamps of Louisiana in what critiques have called a unique blend of player-versus-player and player-versus-enemy elements. But once players have taken a bounty, they instantly become a target for every other Hunter left on the map. The higher the risk, the higher the reward—but a single mistake could cost everything, and death is permanent. In Hunt‘s Quick Play mode, ten solo players compete for the chance to keep their Hunter at the end of the match — and a considerable amount of gold,” Crytek’s overview says.

Hunt: Showdown launched on Steam Early Access in February 2018, followed by an Xbox One version in the Xbox Game Preview in May 2019. However, the game will not only launch on PC and Xbox One, as there will be a PlayStation 4 version, too. First, the PC and Xbox One will get the game on August 20, and the PlayStation 4 port will launch this autumn. The price will be 40 dollars/euros, and via Koch Media (Deep Silver), a physical retail version will also be available.

Crytek has been in some financial hole a few years ago. Let’s hope that Hunt: Showdown will help them improve their situation and get strong enough to be a relevant player on the market once again after the Crysis heydays.
