Unreal Tournament: Epic recognizes “not knowing how to finish” the development of it

The authors of Gears of War froze the project of Unreal Tournament to focus on Fortnite.

It’s been a few months since Epic Games announced that it freezes the development of UT, the long-awaited return of this mythical multiplayer action saga, due to Fortnite’s huge success. Are there possibilities to see the video game finished? The head of the company leaves the question in the air, recognizing that in Epic they do not know how to “end ” the development of UT.

“Many of the main developers after Unreal Tournament made the jump very soon to Fortnite Battle Royale and still continue to be key creatives” in this popular battle royale, said Tim Sweeney when questioned for the reasons that led the studio to paralyze its development. On the other hand, the manager adds, “we do not know how to ‘finish’ Unreal Tournament because the project was very experimental and we failed to find its essence.”

Therefore, the future of Unreal Tournament is still in the air, an action videogame that sought to give great prominence to the most creative fans by promoting the use of mods. So much so that they could even sell cosmetic mods to other players to obtain an economic return for their work.
