Ubisoft Admits Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Should Have Been Delayed!

The French company effectively admits that the new Ghost Recon (which isn’t that good, let’s put it that way) would have benefited from a minor delay (for a few months, for example).

„It was necessary to respect the launch window and we did the best we could with the time we had. […] Every developer will say that [additional] time is always positive. I would say that our launch window was the key for us, but we had to respect it. [Ghost Recon: Breakpoint] will improve once the game is released,” Joe Gingras, the director of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint said.

This comment shows that Ubisoft’s investors probably expected Ghost Recon: Breakpoint to launch in 2019, as the other major games for the French company (such as Watch Dogs: Legion or Gods & Monsters) will launch in 2020, so Ubisoft had to have a big title for this period in the fiscal year, too. We wonder if it was a good decision, though.

In the EMEAA region (Europe. Middle-East, and Africa), on the week ending October 6, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint had every chance to start right on the top of the list. However, it didn’t happen, as FIFA 20 managed to retain its first position from last week. Let’s see the charts – the brackets show the last week’s position:

  1. FIFA 20 (1.)
  2. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint (new entry)
  3. Grand Theft Auto V (6.)
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2.)
  5. Borderlands 3 (3.)
  6. Marvel’s Spider-Man (22.)
  7. Red Dead Redemption (21.)
  8. Just Cause 3 (123.)
  9. Crash Team Racing Nitro Fuelled (11.)
  10. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII (unknown)

Aside from Just Cause 3’s meteoric rise, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint did not have a breakthrough in Europe. Sure, FIFA is a big hit around here, but an AAA game should have the better of him. It didn’t happen.
