Phil Spencer Celebrates PS5 Sharing One of the Xbox Series X Technical Bets

Xbox boss, Phil Spencer argues that SSD drives will allow creating richer and more fluid worlds in the new generation.

The head of Xbox, the always active in statements Phil Spencer, has held in a recent interview that Sony is investing in SSD technology, as well as new engines and tools, for PlayStation 5, something they are also doing from Microsoft to Xbox X Series and that is fundamental for the next generation of consoles developments.

“I like that Mark Cerny and his team at Sony are also investing in a PlayStation SSD so that engines and tools can implement the corresponding functions,” Spencer said in a talk with PC Games Hardware. “Together we will make the installed base larger and those developers can take more and better advantage of the hardware capabilities,” he added.

Phil Spencer, like the architects at Sony, is firmly convinced that this technology will be critical for the new generation. “Thanks to its speed, developers can use an SSD practically as a virtual RAM, ” he explained. “The option of supporting the data in the CPU and GPU through the SSD will allow the worlds of the created games to be not only richer but also more fluid,” he continued, noting that for all this to be carried out as well. It will be necessary to work at the level of the operating system of the machine.

The Xbox boss said that at the moment nobody on Xbox, or in any of his internal studios, has had access to a PlayStation 5 development kit. “I don’t have a PS5 development kit, in fact, I think he doesn’t even have it. our team dedicated to Minecraft [Mojang], but it will be exciting to see how the industry will benefit from the use of these hardware solutions, “he said in this regard.

Speaking about both consoles, a few days ago leaked on the network technical specifications of PS5 and Xbox Series X that pointed to a difference in favour of the second.
