Capcom Sales Figures: Monster Hunter: World Keeps Selling Well

Monster Hunter: World has become such a success that we bought almost twice as many copies of it than the second best-selling Capcom title…

Capcom has updated its Platinum Titles page. If a game sells more than one million copies, it becomes a Platinum Title. Currently, 94 titles are on this list, although the Japanese company has only considered sales until December 31, as the third fiscal quarter year has ended that day.

Let’s start with the biggest game. Monster Hunter: World (we’ll list the release platforms in brackets – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is at 14.9 million sales, which is 800 thousand higher than the figure published the last time (which included sales until September 30), meaning the monster-hunting still sells like hotcakes. No wonder Capcom keeps updating it regularly. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) reached seven million, which is 200K higher than its previous figure. Resident Evil 2 Remake (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is barely a year old, and it already has 5.8 million sold copies. In the previous quarter, it sold 840 thousand.

Devil May Cry 5 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is at 3.1 million sales, which isn’t that much (especially if we compare it with Resident Evil 2 Remake…), but it’s still respectable. It also grew by 400K since the previously published figure. Street Fighter V (PlayStation 4, PC) – 4.1 million, with a 200K growth. , Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PlayStation 4, Xbox One!) – 3.4 million (+400K); it’s weird to see them separate the expansion from the base game. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC) – 1.4 million, and it’s a newcomer on the list.

The top five looks like this: Monster Hunter: World, Resident Evil 5 – 7.6 million, Resident Evil 6 – 7.4 million, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Street Fighter II with its 6.3 million sales on the SNES is still holding fifth place. You can see a few more interesting results on the page.

Also, a few more total sales figures for some bigger franchises: Resident Evil: 95 million, Monster Hunter: 60 million, Street Fighter: 44 million, Mega Man: 35 million, Devil May Cry: 21 million, Dead Rising: 13 million, Marvel vs. Capcom: 9.3 million, Onimusha: 8.3 million, Ace Attorney: 7.3 million, Lost Planet: 6.2 million.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is arriving this Spring, and we can expect Street Fighter VI, Resident Evil 8, and the new Dragon’s Dogma to show up on the list. None of these games is announced yet, but we can highly expect them to be in development…
