Two PlayStation 5 And Xbox Models At The End Of The Year?

Both Sony and Microsoft might plan to release two different PlayStation 5 or Xbox models respectively – we wonder how the two console manufacturers will use in their respective marketing.

„I heard that there are 2 consoles per company. The mid-gen refreshes are going to be introduced at release so that these consoles can run the entire 7-year cycle. The Xbox Series X that was released yesterday is the top end one. (With the 12 TFLOPS GPU.) There will be a base Xbox Series X that is slower than that one,” VFXVeteran, an industry insider, writes on the NeoGAF forums. We suspect that the base model will be called Xbox Series S.

Let’s see what else he wrote: „Sony is releasing 2 PlayStation 5 models. The base PS5 is 9TFLOPs. Their other one is also top of the line to compete with the Xbox Series X top dog. This all makes sense now as to why people are getting mixed numbers for each of the platforms. I also heard that the top of the line models will be expensive. No pricing but I would guess around $600. My guess is that they are going to release both models at the same time.”

Keep in mind that the PlayStation 4 Pro can reach 4.2 TFLOPS, while the Xbox One X is capable of hitting 6 TFLOPS, so there’s still a significant increase from the current generation to the next one. Still, it looks like we might have to break up the piggy bank to have enough cash so we can acquire the higher-end consoles.

Keep in mind that this is unofficial at the moment. Unless Sony and Microsoft confirm this, take it with a grain of salt. Still, it’s going to be weird that both companies might launch the stronger model already at the end of 2020. Nintendo on the other hand simply differentiates the Switch and the Switch Lite, and it could benefit them.
