Reggie’s New Workplace Is Unexpected!

Reginald (Reggie) Fils-Aime (who previously got in our hearts as the former American president of Nintendo) has chosen a quite unexpected place to continue his career…

GameStop announced that their board of directors will be joined by Reggie. The store chain that is mostly known for selling video games and related accessories isn’t in a good situation at the moment (closing shops, laying off employees… and not even their magazine, Game Informer, can keep things in the green), which is why it’s a significant surprise to see one of the former Nintendo characters work here.

Reggie Fils-Aime will join GameStop’s board of directors on April 20, together with William (Bill) Simon and James (J.K.) Symancyck. The ex-Nintendo boss joins to partake in a comprehensive search process (to find why the company is in a decline). „The gaming industry needs a healthy and vibrant GameStop. I look forward to being a part of GameStop Corporation Board and helping to make this happen,” Reggie wrote on Twitter.

The three „rookies” will replace four previous members (Dan DeMatteo, Gerald Szczepanski, Larry Zilavy, Steve Koonin), who will leave in June 2020. In June 2021, two more people will retire (Jerome Davis, Tom Kelly). The chairman of the board will be Kathy Vrabeck, the current independent director of GameStop – she’ll replace DeMatteo.

We’ll not go into the press release (three pages of descriptions…), but we’ll ask why Reggie decided to join GameStop? The retail sales aren’t as prominent anymore as they were, say, fifteen years ago – back then, it wasn’t that easy to download the newest games for the PS2. Today, you can easily get the newest AAA titles from the PlayStation Store, where you can even find games that never got a physical release.

GameStop is on a decline because of this as well, and Reggie might turn things around – he does know the gaming industry like the back of his hand. If he can’t stop the company from going bankrupt then nobody can. We wish him the best.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
