Ghost Of Tsushima: The Story And The Setting

The United Kingdom’s Official PlayStation Magazine has slipped into spoiler territories with the next Sucker Punch game.

We found the following details on PSU, but before we discuss them, let’s get this out of the way: SPOILERS FOLLOW, READ FURTHER AT YOUR RISK.

So we already knew that Ghost of Tsushima would be set during the attempts of the Mongols invading Japan (they never succeeded that much…). We can also add that the plot will be set between 1274 and 1281, and its protagonist will be Jin Sakai. This samurai is taught by his uncle named Shimura, who happens to be the Lord of Tsushima Island. This island is halfway between the Korean peninsula and the Japanese mainland (Honshu).

Jin gets involved in the fight against the Mongol hordes, but they overwhelm the island, and thus, he has to escape with Shimura after realising that brute force is not a winning strategy here. Thus, he turns to the path of Ninja, and he learns the Way of the Ghost, which allows him to stealthily subvert and kill the enemies that decimate the people of Tsushima (and they also outnumber the Japanese). Jin becomes a Robin Hood-like character that protects the fellow Japanese and fights against the Mongols, who effectively consider him as public enemy number one.

Jin’s resistance gets noticed by Khotun Khan, who is essentially the game’s version of Kublai Khan, who in real life led the Mongol’s expansion in Asia. He will try to eliminate Jin and everything he stands for.

Sounds good so far. Ghost of Tsushima is planned to launch on June 26, exclusively on PlayStation 4, but it might be delayed due to the coronavirus, just like how The Last of Us Part II got an indefinite delay. Better prepare for the worst.
