Project 007: IO Interactive’s Next Game Could Be The Start Of A Trilogy

The Danish studio also doesn’t want to just make a film-to-game adaptation, meaning IO Interactive will give James Bond a brand new story.

Last year, it was a massive surprise to hear that IO Interactive is developing a James Bond game. Hakan Abrak, the CEO of the studio, was interviewed by Danmarks Radio, Danmark’s public broadcaster. The interview’s most important points were translated on the ResetEra forums. Abrak clearly stated that Project 007 is quite early in its development, so we shouldn’t wait for it to launch in a couple of months at all.

He still added that Project 007 will take all the elements from the James Bond films that made those popular: evil, intelligent villains to rule the Earth, car chases, as well as difficult missions to make Agent 007’s adventure hard (while Agent 47 has had a pretty easy task; for instance, Hitman III’s Dubai mission can be completed in under eight seconds – you can see the video of it here.)

IO Interactive already wants to create its unique James Bond universe, and that’s a reason why the term trilogy is mentioned regularly within the studio. However, they will need more employees to make it happen. Abrak added that in the next few years, he expects IO Interactive to double its staff to more than 400 people. They also plan to open a new studio in Sweden to help develop the game.

We already wrote about Project 007 in November, and here’s what its website claims: „It’s Bond, James Bond. Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game to be developed and published by IO Interactive. Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.”

Project 007 will be available on modern platforms and PC… probably not before 2024.
