The DualSense Isn’t Safe From Drifting: Sony Might Be Facing A Lawsuit! [VIDEO]

After the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con controllers, the PlayStation 5‘s DualSense controllers are also suffering from drifting…

We read on Reddit that a customer wasn’t that lucky: after only ten days of usage, they noticed that the DualSense’s analogue stick started to drift, causing unintentional inputs, making the controller much less precise. Kotaku reported about the situation, and we also have a video about how the controller caused drifting in Destiny 2.

Sony‘s customer support told Kotaku that the DualSense’s drifting is covered by the PlayStation 5’s warranty, so they can repair the issue for free. However, shipping fees have to be paid by us. Sony hasn’t responded to Gamesindustry yet – and they likely won’t, maybe except for sending a PR message in the best scenario.

A US law firm, Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (which we will shorten to CSK&D onwards) announced that they are investigating the customers’ claims about the DualSense drift. You might recognize CSK&D – they are the same firm behind the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con drift lawsuit!

„CSK&D is investigating a potential class action based upon reports that Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers for the PlayStation 5 console can experience drift issues and/or fail prematurely. Specifically, it is reported that the joystick on certain PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers will automatically register movement when the joystick is not being controlled and interfere with gameplay. If you own a PlayStation 5 Dualsense controller experiencing drift issues, please contact the attorney(s) listed below by filling out the form provided,” the firm wrote. They could have also mentioned that the adaptive triggers can become irresponsive after a while!

This could cost a lot for Sony – okay, Nintendo immediately offered free repairs, but if an analogue stick starts to drift after just ten days, then we have to ask whether the product is intentionally manufactured as such or not so that we are forced to buy more of them…
