The First The Witcher Game Could Have Had No Geralt! [VIDEO]

CD Projekt RED has previously had different ideas, but then, they had second thoughts (and we can’t even grasp how the series would have looked without Geralt).

During WitcherCon, Phillipp Weber and Blazej Augustynek, two CD Projekt RED quest designers, talked about how they had different plans for the first The Witcher game, as it wouldn’t have had Geralt as the protagonist! Instead, we would have had a player-made character, which could have made some sense, as the world of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books was big, so while they had Geralt as the hero, other locations could have had someone else in the lead role.

„For the first few years, basically, we tried to make it so you can make your witcher, and you were exploring new lands, but then, over and over, the question came, you know. The game is called The Witcher. At some point, I think everyone kind of realized, yeah, we want to be Geralt of Rivia, we want to be the Witcher,” Weber said. So in the game, which ended up launching in late 2007 on PC, could have skipped the character we all grew to love over time. They showcased a video of a custom hero.

Without Geralt, the tub scene in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt wouldn’t have become a meme. And now that we mentioned the game that released in 2015, it going to have a next-gen version. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition will have different box art, plus it will feature content inspired by the Netflix series, which is going to get its second season shortly. Geralt seems to have received a facelift.

We still have to wait for further details about this version, which will launch in the second half of 2021 (we’re already there…) on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC original can be upgraded to the next-gen version free of charge.
