The NPD Group has released its June 2021 report for North America, and surprisingly, the PlayStation 5 was not called victorious.

 

Last month, the players have spent 4.9 billion dollars in gaming altogether, which, despite the pandemic, was still a 5% year-on-year increase, and this is a respectable result. Although the Nintendo Switch (including the Nintendo Switch Lite model as well) sold the most units last month, in terms of dollar sales, the Xbox Series duo managed to take the lead!

We do not know how Microsoft managed to pull this victory in, but it could be the fact that the Redmond-based company is starting to get over the lack of shortage in components and consoles, and is capable of providing more units than Sony with the PlayStation 5. This is why we should keep an eye on the July results: if Microsoft remains on top, then there might be some true competition happening for this console generation…

And here’s June top 20, which was taken by Sony, but even Nintendo’s new exclusive got on the podium, albeit behind the current Activision Blizzard cash cow…
