Take-Two: Grand Theft Auto V Is Over 150 Million; The Publisher Thinks It’s Inclusive

Take-Two is not looking to the past with Grand Theft Auto V, but forward, thanks to several of its games that continue to sell at superhuman rates.

Take-Two is not looking back towards the past; it is looking into the future, thanks to a few of its games selling well.

The publisher has revealed its quarterly financial earnings report for the April-June quarter year. As expected, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are the titles that bring the publisher a lot of cash outside NBA 2K.

Let’s talk about the two Rockstar products: Grand Theft Auto V, which nearly launched nearly eight years ago (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC – no PlayStation 5/Xbox Series yet!), has sold over 150 million copies. Red Dead Redemption 2 is over 38 million sales. Both are outstanding figures.

In the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years (from April 2022 to March 2024), Take-Two wants to publish 41 games. 19 will be immersive core titles (4 of them free-to-play, and 7 out of 19 are sports simulation games), 5 indie games, 10 free-to-play mobile releases, 4 “mid-core” games (three of which are sports-oriented), and there will be 3 “new iterations of previously released titles). According to Gamesindustry, the Strauss Zelnick-led company will announce a new franchise this month.

The site also asked about Take-Two’s work culture after the scandals in both Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard, both of which we discuss as they progress. Here’s Zelnick’s response: “I can only really talk about us. Our culture is one of inclusiveness, common decency, mutual ambition for success, transparency, honesty, and kindness. […]

If people have concerns, they have direct access to me, and everyone in the company knows that. When issues raise themselves — and of course, with 6,800 people, there’s always an opportunity for a misunderstanding — we address it at the highest level. We make sure that we make things right to the best of our ability,” he replied.

NBA 2K22 will launch on September 10, followed by Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced (the next-gen version) and Grand Theft Auto Online Standalone on November 11. WWE 2K22, OlliOlli World, and a next-gen version of Kerbal Space Program are planned to arrive this year, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands should release in the first quarter of 2022.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
