Counter-Strike 2, now Also for Left-Handers

Valve’s game has a modification that was interestingly left out until now, and while it doesn’t affect the gameplay in any way, it does take into account that biology sometimes does strange things to people.

It’s been almost 24 years since terrorists fought counter-terrorists over bombs and hostages, because that’s how old the Counter-Strike IP is. However, there was one factor missing from the game: everyone was right-handed. The left hand was either swinging, reloading, or holding the gun, but it wasn’t pulling the trigger, even though there are left-handed people in the world.

And Valve realized that this was a way to appeal to the audience, so after installing the latest Counter-Strike 2 patch, we now have the choice of having the right-handed character that we’ve always had, or making him a left-handed character and having his gun always in the right hand. The update is not only visible locally, but also over the network, so anyone who might be watching (or participating in) our match can see which hand we have our weapon in.

You can even change hands during a match. All you have to do is press the H key on your keyboard. There’s even a little animation of, for example, moving the knife from one hand to the other if you have it in your hand (which can be useful because it makes you run a little faster). You can download Counter-Strike 2 for free from Steam, and the system requirements (of which Valve has only given you the minimum!) are quite friendly:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: 4-thread processor – Intel Core i5-750 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: DX11 capable with 1GB of VRAM and support for Shader Model 5.0
  • Free disk space: 85 GB

The i5-750 was released in Q3 2009, and DX11 came with Windows 7 after its launch in 2008. So it’s not a hard bar to clear.
