A Veteran LucasArts Developer has Passed Away

He worked at LucasArts for more than 20 years, and if you’ve played any Star Wars game in the last two decades, you’ve probably seen his name in the credits.

Matthew Shell has passed away after suffering a heart attack, Geoff Keighley, organizer of The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, announced on Twitter: “If you’ve played a Star Wars game in the last two decades, Matt Shell was a key part of bringing them to life at LucasArts. Shockingly, Matt passed away this week from a heart attack. Matt was an incredible person with a huge heart — kind, loyal, hard-working, and always funny. He brought a smile to every meeting. RIP Matt Shell, one of the truly great people in the game industry.”

Ray Almeda, head of international PR for Electronic Arts, also paid tribute to Shell: “Devastated to hear the news of the tragic passing of our friend Matt Shell. I knew Matt for about a decade as we worked together to bring Star Wars games to everyone as we traveled the world. He did this for 20 years at LucasArts. We will miss his jokes, his love of Sticky Toffee Pudding, his BBQ expertise, his celebration of [Golden State] Warriors championship nights, and of course his deep San Francisco Giants fandom. Rest in paradise my friend and may the force be with you always.” The Golden State Warriors are a basketball team and the Giants are in baseball.

Lincoln Hershberger, the head of Good Shepard Entertainment, also responded to Keighley’s tweet, writing that Shell was an incredible man and it’s hard to take in the tragic news. He was a beloved friend and colleague who will always be missed. Matt Shell was most recently the brand marketing director for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He has held this position for many games outside of Star Wars (2022: Return to Monkey Island, Warped Kart Racers; 2020: Archer: Danger Phone; 2017: Full Throttle: Remastered; 2016: Day of the Tentacle: Remastered, where he was Senior Product Marketing Manager…).

Rest in peace.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
