Pierce Brosnan Might Play The Role Of (An Old) James Bond Again?!

MOVIE NEWS – Pierce Brosnan’s role in the upcoming The Thursday Murder Club adaptation may show what he could bring to an “old Bond” movie.

Pierce Brosnan has signed on for a new crime thriller, which could be the closest thing to an old James Bond movie for the audience, especially if it gets a sequel. Although Brosnan was already an established actor before taking on the role of James Bond, his starring role in the series elevated him to the pantheon of movie stars. Since he departed from the franchise, he has appeared in several other projects. In one of his subsequent films, he will work with Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley in a surprising crime thriller.

The adaptation of the critically acclaimed book also means that subsequent sequels can be made with the same cast.

Given the project’s franchise potential, Brosnan might order a new series alongside his previous projects. Although this won’t be a spy movie or an action movie, the crime thriller could be a good opportunity for the actor to play with qualities that Brosnan has shown in one of his best roles before.

Pierce Brosnan in a Bond-like role

In The Thursday Murder Club, Pierce Brosnan appears in a reckless but charming role. This is strongly reminiscent of his abilities as James Bond. Netflix’s upcoming film adaptation is directed and written by Chris Columbus. The film stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley as Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim.

The novel follows the story of four retired friends – Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce, who have yet to be cast -investigating a murder case.

Ron, a former union organizer, is the novel’s charming, albeit sarcastic, character. This is an excellent opportunity for Brosnan to bring out the charm he has perfected in previous roles such as James Bond. However, Ron’s stubborn loyalty makes him especially dangerous to those who would hurt his friends and family. Ron could be an ideal role for Brosnan, utilizing the full range of his performance skills.

The vast book success of The Thursday Murder Club can pave the way for our continuation

The Thursday Murder Club, written by Richard Osman, proved to be a great success for the author. In the UK, he is better known as the host of game shows such as House of Games and Pointless. This was Osman’s first novel. It was an immediate critical and commercial success, spawning several sequels that continued the group’s mystery-solving adventures.

The book series’ huge success could set the stage for sequels to the film version of The Thursday Murder Club.

If the film adaptation is well-received, they could even create an additional crime series. Although Ron is not a secret agent in the books, Elizabeth’s service with MI6 sets the stage for the espionage element, which may become more prominent in the film adaptation. In this way, Brosnan could also play someone who is on the same tonal path as James Bond.

The volume initially published in 2020 has already generated three sequels. The fifth part of the series will be published in 2025.

Why is it unlikely that an actual “Old Man Bond” movie will ever be made?

This is probably the best chance for audiences to see an older version of a James Bond-type character. Movies like Logan and comics like TMNT: The Last Ronin highlight how interesting it can be to explore how a seasoned action hero adjusts to old age. James Bond would be a fascinating version of this story, which was also touched upon by the last Daniel Craig entries in the franchise, such as No Time to Die. However, a full-length film focusing primarily on this would be interesting – and, at the same time, unlikely.

Much of the appeal of James Bond films lies in the fact that the secret agent seduces and/or defeats all of his adversaries.

It’s a young man’s series regarding the amount of stunts and action required. Even in movies that drew on ageing elements, we could see a James Bond who could still hold his own. In-universe, an aging Bond would likely be forcibly retired or moved to a higher position. An “old James Bond” movie would be fantastic, but fans will probably still get a taste of those character moments with Brosnan’s role in The Thursday Murder Club.
