Latest Fallout 4 Patch Gets Very Different Reaction From PC Players Bethesda Had Hoped For…

Although the update was better received on other platforms, many Fallout 4 players on PC feel that it wasn’t worth it.

The update, which was supposed to boost Fallout 4 to the next-gen level, did not bring the expected results. In addition to the minor problems encountered by some console users, the situation on PC was also decidedly negative. In short, it looks like the PC version wasn’t worth the effort. It makes little difference and makes most of the unofficial mods incompatible. (And we haven’t even talked about the Steam Deck disaster yet…) The situation has many users looking for a way to restore the game to the version before the next-gen update.

The Fallout 4 update has met with resistance from the PC community

The two most downloaded files on Nexus Mods’ official Fallout 4 portal, the most popular website for downloading such add-ons, are “Steam-Skin Next-Gen Update” and “Fallout 4 Downgrader”. Both mods live up to their names: while the former is a file that “tricks” Steam into thinking you’ve already updated the game, the latter allows users who have already installed the update to easily revert to a previous version of the game.

It’s worth noting that these mods are needed in part because Valve’s store doesn’t allow you to roll back patches, which services like GOG do.

The truth is, it’s a bit of an unfortunate situation. For one thing, Bethesda can’t be unaware of the thousands of community-made mods when it comes to updating their video game. On the other hand, you should consider them when making a decision. Was it worth rolling out the update on PC, knowing that problems were inevitable? While the developer says the response is positive, the community seems to disagree with the decision. It’s a shame, especially since the franchise is on the rise again, thanks to the release of the Fallout TV series.

Despite all this, Fallout 4 is still one of the most played games on PC. The game peaked on Steam on Sunday with more than 185,000 concurrent users. This is the highest number since December 7, 2015. (Just a few weeks after release.) Plus, it has extra merit: the game is already available on Game Pass and GOG. In that sense, the total number will be much higher. Let’s not even talk about adding users on consoles.
