Matt Reeves celebrates Batman Day by cutting a new trailer for the film

The director is on the editing table, where he is working on the post-production of The Batman with Robert Pattinson. We are excited to see the new trailer!

Batman Day gave Matt Reeves the chance to share a sneaky new look at the masked crusader played by Robert Pattinson, as he posted a photo on Twitter to celebrate the day and give us a behind-the-scenes look at the post-production process. Fans are excited for next month’s DC FanDome. Reeves promises to share “a lot more” about Pattinson’s upcoming role as the Dark Knight, who will take on some of the greatest adversaries, including the Hideous Enchanter, Catwoman and the Penguin. Although an exclusive new trailer will be shown at the DC FanDome event, it seems Reeves is looking forward to sharing more – bless him for working on a DC movie rather than a Marvel one.

“Wow, I’ve been away for a long time…! Just poking my head out of the editing room for a moment to say #HappyBatmanDay! Looking forward to sharing more with you all on #DCFanDome four weeks from today! (Sorry for the messy desk #LongHours) #TheBatman,” tweeted Matt Reeves, showing off a new photo of Robert Pattinson in The Batman.

Many DC fans still want Warner Bros. to make a Batfleck movie, but Pattinson’s reception has been largely positive during previews. Reeves showed off the first teaser trailer for The Batman at last year’s FanDome event, and with the film coming in six months, you can tell how long the journey is, but from what we’ve seen so far, it will be worth the wait for a wholly down-to-earth and grim version of Gotham‘s crime-fighter.

“What’s important about this iteration is that a lot of the rest of the story is about how he had to overcome his fears and himself to become Batman. And that in this Batman state, he is his best self,” Reeves said. “For me, the exciting thing was not doing that, not doing the origin, not doing what we’ve seen so beautifully realized in other films.”

Reeves went on to say that the film is very much set in his world, and Bruce Wayne “finds himself in the middle of this criminological experiment. [We’ll see] him becoming Batman. [We will see him] making mistakes as Batman. We’ll see him grow up, fail, become heroic, and do all the things we associate with Batman, but in a way that’s very human and very mixed emotions”.

The new flick is going to have its work cut out for it. The Dark Knight has been on the big screen for more than 30 years, but the story is very similar to the Batman: Year One comic book series, so, as Reeves is keen to point out, this is a version of Batman that we’ve never seen in previous cinematic appearances. He also avoided being touched in Gotham, which only arrived at the end of the series for Bruce Wayne‘s transformation into Batman.

With only six months to go until the film’s arrival, it seems that all the early doubts about what Pattinson can do in the role will be silenced by the footage we’ve seen so far. The actor’s ability will undoubtedly be further proven by the new trailer, which will be shown at DC FanDome in October. We look forward to it!
