John Wick 4: new characters, car crashes and crazy fights for Keanu Reeves!

The John Wick 4 star has revealed more details about the highly anticipated action sequel. Donnie Yen will also be making an appearance as the assassin’s old friend.

John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, has provided a very promising update on the upcoming fourth film. The actor revealed that they had “gotten into it”. The John Wick franchise has become famous for its intense, inventive action sequences, and Reeves says John Wick 4 will open up the world and take action to dizzying heights.

“They’re fun. They’re intense. We’ll give it a go. There will be some really amazing John Wick action and new characters, and it’s been really fun to reprise the role and tell that story. You know, there are new characters, we’re expanding the world of the film. Right now, we’re shooting a crazy fight scene in the middle of traffic. So there are car accidents, there are shootouts.”

As the titular assassin, Keanu Reeves has had to deal with all sorts of craziness in his quest for revenge, from killing people while riding his motorbike to using books and horses as weapons, but it looks like John Wick 4 is ready for its challenges. A fight scene in the middle of traffic seems like the perfect situation for Mr Wick and should result in the unique action scene the franchise is known for.

The actor also talks about how the sequel will tell more and more about the mysterious world of the protagonist, introducing new characters who will undoubtedly be a mix of accomplices and villains. One of these new characters will be played by martial arts superstar Donnie Yen, who will reportedly play an old friend of Keanu Reeves’ super-assassin John Wick, with whom he shares a past and many enemies.

MOVIE NEWS - Actor, action choreographer and martial arts expert Donnie Yen has joined Keanu Reeves in the cast of John Wick 4.

Yen recently spoke about working on the John Wick sequel, and he had high praise for both star Keanu Reeves and returning director Chad Stahelski. “I have to take this opportunity to (express) my highest appreciation for Chad (Stahelski) and Keanu (Reeves). They are simply wonderful people and gentlemen with big hearts,” said Yen. “Keanu has a good soul; he’s a good man. Chad is also a very good man, very knowledgeable. People think of him as a brilliant action guy, but he’s not (just) that; he knows how to make movies. He’s a film librarian; he knows what’s happening in Hollywood (as does Quentin Tarantino, who worked in video – ed.). I feel most comfortable working with him on this film (more) than any of my previous Hollywood films, so I wanted to express my gratitude.”

Almost nothing is known about the plot of John Wick 4, but audiences last saw the down-and-out hitman when he was left on his own after being declared an outcast following the violence of 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2. Now, with a severe bounty on his head, in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Wick seeks help to save himself from ruthless assassins and bounty hunters. The film ends with Wick being shot by his friend Winston before falling off the roof of the Continental.

John Wick 4 will star Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Clancy Brown and Ian McShane alongside Keanu Reeves and Donnie Yen and is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 27 May 2022 by Lionsgate.
