Will Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition Get A Physical Edition?

The gaming industry’s worst-kept secret this year Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy although it has been announced, there has been no word on whether there will be a disc/retail version, for example.

Rockstar has finally announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is a real thing, and it will feature the three PlayStation 2 games (Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories were not initially made for that platform!), Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, all ported to Unreal Engine 4.

We found on the ResetEra forums that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition were available on the Base.com website. Not any more, but the site displayed a hefty price tag, which was a bit steep. The price was $70 (and, quite inexplicably, £70, even though the British currency is stronger than the American…) for the three-remake bundle.

While this may be just a temporary price tag (i.e. a placeholder until the final pricing comes in), Take-Two said in March that they think we’re ready to raise the $60/euro pricing we’ve had for a decade and a half to $70… and that’s what Sony is charging for several PlayStation 5 exclusives, which is 80 euros instead of 70 here, so it’s even more expensive for us.

According to the Polish PPE, the boxed trilogy could be released in December: the site estimates that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switches editions will be released on 7 December (here still for 60 dollars/euro), while the PlayStation 5/Xbox Series versions will only hit the shops in 2022, and we could buy them here with the higher price tag. (And the PC ones would probably be middle-finger rated with a Denuvo + Rockstar Games Launcher pairing and would be digital-only.)

By the way, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is coming to everything (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch; iOS/Android pairing is set for 2022 by default).
