MOVIE NEWS – Ryan Reynolds is about to become – literally – a “Free Guy“, but his wife Blake Lively says it’s not that big a deal.
Ryan Reynolds has been back in cinemas twice this year, with Salma Hayek and Samuel L. Jackson in Much Ado About Bodyguard 2, and in August, Free Guy, starring him, was released to critical and audience acclaim. The actor will soon be back in a major production, this time on screen, with the debut of one of the most expensive self-produced films in Netflix history, the heist comedy Particularly Dangerous Criminals, on 12 November, in which Dwayne Johnson’s character tries to catch the thieves played by Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.
Since the summer, Reynolds has been shooting another streaming film, Spirited, for Apple TV+. The musical comedy reimagines one of the greatest holiday classics, Charles Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol, with Reynolds as the stony-faced but soulless loan shark Ebenezer Scrooge, and also stars Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, with whom the actor last worked in 2007’s The Nine.
Apple has yet to announce when the Christmas movie will arrive, but Ryan Reynolds recently finished filming and his recent Instagram post shows that it also marks the start of a little holiday for him.
“I’m done with Spirited,” he wrote in a photo shared from the shoot, “I’m not sure I would have been ready to say yes to such a challenging film even three years ago. Singing, dancing, and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made many of my dreams come true. This is my second film with the great Octavia Spencer… Perfect timing to retire from filmmaking for a while. I’m going to miss every second of working with such a talented group of filmmakers. These days, kindness is as important as talent. I’m lucky to have worked with people who are great at both.”
The post was also commented on by the actor’s wife Blake Lively, who noted that Michael Caine did it first, referring to the fact that the British acting legend had just recently announced his (not permanent) retirement. So Ryan Reynolds is now taking a break, and it’s not clear how long it will last, but when he returns, the MCU will be waiting for him, as the third Deadpool movie will be made at Marvel Studios.
