Sony Launches The “Playstation PC” Brand

Steam users have noticed that Sony is adding a new “PlayStation PC” label to its PC ports; the company previously used the PlayStation Mobile label. The CFO has spoken of “aggressive” developer investment.

Registration documentation found on the Corporation Wiki shows that Sony registered the “PlayStation PC” back in April, while company executives stressed the need to extend the PlayStation experience beyond traditional consoles. With titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone already ported, Sony’s plans include making hit series such as God of War and Uncharted available to PC gamers.

Yesterday, Sony Group released its financial results for the second quarter of its fiscal year ended September 30. CFO Hiroki Totoki said the company plans to invest “aggressively” in its development capabilities. He added that Sony plans to leverage “expertise in bringing games to PC and mobile devices” with recent studio acquisitions.

“In the future, we plan to leverage these studios to enhance PlayStation Studios’ development capabilities and leverage our expertise in bringing games to PC and mobile devices,” Totoki said, according to a transcript provided by Video Games Chronicle. “As a result of the acquisitions announced since the beginning of this fiscal year, the number of PlayStation studios has increased by four to 16, and the number of developers will grow by nearly 20 percent. We plan to continue to invest aggressively in these capacities,” the CFO added.

Speaking specifically about the acquisitions of Bluepoint Games and Firesprite, Totoki said both studios “have excellent technical capabilities and excellent track records“.
