Keanu Reeves Would Love To Return To Play John Constantine [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Keanu Reeves would love the chance to reprise his role as DC supernatural detective John Constantine in a sequel.

Popular Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to reprise one of his many “John” characters, namely John Constantine, in a possible sequel to DC’s 2005 Constantine. The actor, who notes the number of times he has played a character indeed named “John”, is particularly attached to the character of John Constantine and hopes to be asked to return to the comic book role of the paranormal detective sooner than later.

“I love playing Constantine. John Constantine.”

“I’ve played a lot of Johns. How many Johns have I played? I don’t even know. I think it’s over ten. But anyway, I’d love to have the chance to play Constantine again.”

The film was produced by Francis Lawrence, director of The Hunger Games and I Am Legend at the time, and the script was written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, based on DC’s Hellblazer comic. In addition to Reeves, the adaptation also stars Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou and Gavin Rossdale in significant roles. While the DC outing has not been particularly well-received by critics (it currently stands at 46% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences have loved it, and it has become a cult film. In addition, Reeves’ resurgence in popularity in recent years should provide a good excuse for a long-awaited sequel.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed about Constantine 2, Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the first film, has already floated the idea of a sequel, posting an announcement on social media that seems to confirm that Constantine 2 is in the works.

Reeves, meanwhile, is busy bringing back one of his most famous ‘Johns’, John Wick, for the upcoming fourth instalment. Before that, the actor will reprise another iconic role, albeit this time as ‘Thomas’, in The Matrix Resurrections, which picks up twenty years after the events of The Matrix Revolutions, with Thomas AKA Neo living a seemingly ordinary life in a new version of digital reality. The Matrix Resurrections is scheduled to hit cinemas on 22 December 2021, with John Wick: Chapter 4 arriving on 27 May 2022.
