Official Gran Turismo 7 Steering Wheel Costs More Than a PS5 [VIDEO]

Fanatec has unveiled Gran Turismo DD Pro, a licensed peripheral exclusively for PlayStation

If you’re a fan of driving games, you’ll know that the experience of driving a simulator behind the wheel is one of the most satisfying and unique experiences for home entertainment. Gran Turismo 7 is less than three months away from release, and if you’re looking forward to it, you’ll have seen that there are several different options on the market in terms of peripherals, even if it promises to make good use of the DualSense controller.

As of this week, that list is joined by a new member: Gran Turismo DD Pro. It’s a steering wheel presented by Fanatec, officially licensed by Polyphony Digital’s franchise. Pre-orders are live today, and the price has skyrocketed above the cost of a next-gen console: 699.95 euros for the cheapest package, rising to 969.85 euros for the most expensive.

The steering wheel features Direct Drive technology to improve force feedback, the sensation of rim resistance depending on the car’s contact with the track and different forces. It is claimed to be the smoothest and most dynamic on the market, as well as other notable features, such as steel construction, magnetic sensors and stiffer spring in the brake pedal for a more realistic experience. The pedalboard, however, does not come with a clutch in its most basic version, although it is available in the higher-priced package.

Gran Turismo DD Pro is compatible with both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the platforms on which Kazunori Yamauchi’s seventh instalment is being released. But it’s also compatible on PC, at least with most of the racing titles available, as the official website claims.

Gran Turismo 7 will be released on PS4 and PS5 on 7 March 2022. The game will attempt to bring back the experience that fans loved in the first instalments, with a strong focus on collectables and more single-player content. However, users have been unhappy about that it requires a permanent connection for most of the modes that can be enjoyed individually.
