20% of Xbox Cloud Gaming Gamers Use Only Touch Controls For Gameplay

Xbox Cloud Gaming already has more than 100 games adapted for these controllers

Since the xCloud service for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate was launched, it has constantly been receiving updates and compatibility with new systems. The Xbox cloud allows us to enjoy a wide catalogue of video games from our devices via streaming. Although the arrival of the service was announced with some of the attention focused on external peripherals to control the game, the truth is that many users use the touch controls of their mobile devices as their primary option.

Monty Hernandez, senior program manager at Xbox, reflected in an interview with The Verge. “Twenty percent of our Xbox Cloud Gaming users use touch control as their exclusive way to play,” Hernandez said. “So it’s important to us that the touch-enabled games we release are relevant and, more importantly, that they work well with these controls.”

This statistic becomes even more shocking in one group of games, where it has reached thirty percent among gamers who play only with touch controls. These include slow-paced titles that don’t require a lot of speed or precision with the controls, but there are also some fairly demanding action games, which speaks volumes about the polish of these controls. These are the most played games exclusively with touch controls:

  • Hades
  • New Super Lucky’s Tale
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon
  • Scarlet Nexus
  • Dragon’s Quest XI
  • Minecraft Dungeons
  • Football Manager 2022 Xbox Edition

“We’ve seen, on average, a two-fold increase in the usage of titles available through Xbox Cloud Gaming, across all genres, that implement touch controls,” said Hernandez. This increased interest has led to many developers working on adding such controls, and we’re seeing some impressive configurations, complete with custom icons and styling. Advancements to Xbox Cloud Gaming haven’t been limited to its controls, we’ve also received improvements to its visual quality, such as Clarity Boost, its filter for Microsoft Edge Canary.
