Dwayne Johnson Firmly But Cordially Rejects Vin Diesel’s Invitation To Return In Fast & Furious 10

For Dwayne Johnson, his history with the Fast & Furious saga is over

Although Vin Diesel begged Dwayne Johnson to join ‘Fast & Furious 10’ last November, the dream is over, and we will not see ‘The Rock’ in the successful film franchise again. In a new interview published on Wednesday, 29 December, Johnson explicitly said that he has no interest in returning to play Luke Hobbs.

But, not only that, but the 49-year-old actor criticised his colleague for having made an invitation on social networks because, privately, they had already reached an agreement and described Diesel’s actions as ‘manipulation’.

In an interview with CNN Entertainment, Dwayne Johnson explains that he had private conversations with Diesel last summer to “firmly but cordially” turn down the offer to return to the franchise. The actor thought he had put the matter to rest, so he was surprised when Diesel came back on Instagram to repeat the offer.

“I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. And while Diesel apparently meant well, Johnson said his post was an “example of his manipulation” and stated, “Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”

However, Dwayne Johnson was keen to clarify that he wishes the Fast & Furious cast and crew every success in making the saga’s finale a success, even though he will not be involved. In the interview mentioned above, Johnson added that he also informed Universal Pictures of his decision and “everyone was very supportive in understanding the problem”.

So it looks like, for the time being, there will be no return of Luke Hobbs in the two Fast & Furious farewell films. Fast & Furious 10 is scheduled to release in theatres on 19 May 2023.
